The Social Investment Agency's Regional Data Explorer(external link) supports access to data for regional and sub-regional decision-making. It brings together 70 datasets or 'indicators' which can be filtered to meet a particular need.
The Explorer makes it easier for regional decision-makers to access a wide range of data in a consistent way across regions. This will enable them to focus on asking better questions, identifying solutions, and making evidence-based decisions.
Commissioned by the Regional Public Service Commissioners, SIA was tasked with sourcing datasets, designing, and publishing the dashboards. The selection of topics, subtopics, and individual indicators involved collaboration with a working group of representatives from the Regional Public Service (RPS) across four regions: Auckland, Bay of Plenty, Marlborough/Nelson/Tasman/West Coast, and Southland/Otago.
We also engaged with subject matter experts from various government agencies to identify and source the necessary datasets, review data presentation, and finalise the wording of the indicators
This tool supports a social investment approach by helping to understand what population groups we need to invest in, and what works for these groups, and how we measure progress. Access to high quality data is an essential part of a social investment approach.
